Brand Name LCD TVs At Bargain Prices!

These days when it comes to purchasing a new television we have so much choice that it's often very difficult to know where to start. There are so many options that we could spend all day going into it but in essence the two main types available are plasma and LCD TVs. So which one is best? Well they both have their good and bad points but really it's hard to pick out a clear winner. Since this plasma verses LCD TVs debate started a few years ago you'd expect by now we'd have a clear winner. It would be great to tell you the better of the two but it's a bit more complicated than that. So let's start with the differences between the two technologies. Plasma utilizes a matrix of gas cells that are heated to create a picture. On the other hand LCD or liquid crystal displays use two sheets of glass enclosing liquid crystal.

Images are created by applying different amounts of electrical charge to the crystal and then illuminating the screen from behind with either florescent tubes or LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes). This is because of the difference between the technologies. For example, if a plasma cell is off then it is un-lit, meaning better blacks, while an LCD screen is still lit from behind from it's LED or fluorescent tubes when displaying blacks. This makes the blacks 'not so black'. Even though LCD has improved blacks on the latest panels plasma still has the edge.

Even at the largest sizes we've seen some great results from 52 inch LCD TVs. But the downside is motion blur caused by the pixels turning on and off which have a lag time of around 5 milliseconds or less. This is something plasma doesn't have to worry about but it's not too noticeable to warrant not considering an LCD TV.
